This afternoon I decided
that the fastest way to my fish filet meal was to walk into the McDonalds and
stand in line. The old fashioned
way. So there I was, in line, waiting
patiently. The man in front completed
his order, and as he turned, he smiled at me.
It was one of those bright smiles that you could see from across the
room. Within a split second my thoughts went from “how do I know this person”
to “look, he has an eye patch”. Luckily I was already smiling back when my
brain did the double take.
I placed my order and as
any good McDonald’s consumer would, I walked over to the self-serve beverage
bar. As soon as I approached it, I
realized I was side by side with the man with the eye patch. I did the only thing I know how to do when I
feel uncomfortable or embarrassed, I smiled and then I filled my cup with ice. I moved to the side and began filling my cup
with Diet Dr. Pepper and I heard the one thing I couldn’t possibly hear.
“Arghhhh”
I looked over and the man
with the eye patch was smiling ear to ear.
I laughed out loud. I couldn’t
help it. He laughed back and then we
were laughing together. Then he
apologized.
I told him there was
need, that it was funny. We both laughed
again. He sealed the lid on his drink
and he walked away. It’s 8 hours later
and I’m still laughing about it.
Imagine what an amazing
sense of humor a person would need to not only laugh at himself, but to laugh
about it with a complete stranger. Kudos
to my pirate friend, wherever he may be tonight.
